Clannad -Kanon-ish and Air-ish?-
And so… This time I quite see some Tomoyo(s) around the anime blogosphere so I told myself I think I should check out Clannad myself and there~~ One thing that motivated me to watch this series on the first place is Tomoyo. I’ve been seeing avatars where she is on the action. I thought it was just “fanpic” so I didn’t bother but I did saw it on the series so I was dumbfounded when I immediately saw it on episode 1.
I’m impressed… Yes, they didn’t came up with any Uguus~ , Auus~ and Gaus~ this time. Well, I have to say though that Fuko’s arc is very Kanon-ish and Air-ish… Well, I can’t blame them. I think they are fond of that plot twist. I’m not saying that it is bad. It is just predictable though(for those who watched Air and Kanon like me). There was also this wheat field with strange lights. I think I saw it from both Air and Kanon.
I don’t know what does the starfish symbolizes throughout the series(or maybe they just want it to be starfish). I have to admit it, I also want to receive that sculpture Fuko holds XD. By the way, I have researched what it symbolizes and I think it quite figures why they chose starfish as the symbol.
In Christian symbolism the Starfish represents the Virgin Mary (Stella Maris which means Star of the Sea) who lovingly creates safe travel over troubled waters and is also seen as an emblem of salvation during trying times. The star as well as the Starfish are seen as celestial symbols and as such, they represent infinite divine love. In addition to love, the Starfish also holds characteristics such as guidance, vigilance, inspiration, brilliance and intuition.
One thing I’ve also notice was the similarity of Ryou and Kyou with Kagamin and Tsukasa… They both have purple hairs as well. Oh well, I’ll still choose Kagamin and Tsukasa because they are cuter.(Lucky Star was also earlier aired than Clannad)
Even though, they’ve got some concepts from both Air and Kanon, I think they also provide some new ones. Just like having a gangstah and 1000 kicks. This was the also the first time the Key made the male protagonist have his problems as well. I can see that the male protagonists in both Air and Kanon are more laidback than Tomoya because they didn’t have any personal problems.(oh, they have — problem with the girls).
People who have watched Tomoyo’s chapter(ep.24) mistook it as the ending!!! Oh come on people. Clannad ended on its episode 22. The summer special(ep. 23) is also specified as something similar to OVA. The fansubbers are also a little at fault because the titling is wrong…
I hope I’ll see Fuko awoke on the After Story.
