Farewell to Crunchyroll

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Almost all the anime fans have been surprised by the announcement of the crunchyroll to regulate all the videos in the site and to halt accepting fansubbed anime episodes anymore. The impending date is said to be in January 15.

Crunchyroll have been introduced only to me by my classmate when I was still in high school. I was original downloading all the loads that I want to watch so I often have to watch out for feeds just to watch the anime earlier than usual. When Cruchyroll was introduced to me, I was able lessen my priorities to download and just watch out for the recent uploads so I’ll be able to maintain the free space of the hard disk. Crunchyroll is also a home for some of the extinct torrents already so I’m kind of sad since I think the videos would be wiped out and only the ones uploaded officially by FUNimation would only be the ones shown in the site. Considering they’ll be banning all the fansubs, I doubt Crunchyroll would still be useful for me because the uploaded videos of FUNimation also filters viewers from different continents.

I just don’t know what’s gonna happen to the future. Will Crunchyroll stick with the licensed materials? What will happen if Studio Pierrot decided to stop doing Naruto? Beats me. I just think Crunchyroll would soon look like a hall of advertisement for all Blue-ray DVDs, posters and other merchandise. I think the community won’t be the same anymore considering I’m quite fond of the forum topics there.

Tales of the Abyss : RPG Resolution

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Okay, let me write something about this game. Okay, I’ll admit that I played this game out of excitement because I found out that it would later be adapted into an anime. I actually never paid any attention to any of the Tales Collection since I had a hard time playing the first(Tales of Phantasia) so I quit the idea but then I was persuaded to do so :D . After watching three episodes of Tales of the Abyss anime, I decided to play and I got puzzled when the dialogues and the subtitle that the gg uses is quite same in the choice of words! I was convinced that they must have been playing the game as well as fansubbing the anime at the same time.

The opening of both the anime and the rpg both depicts Luke and Asch fighting which made me get the wrong idea that Asch was the antagonist in the story when he is not. I had a hard time playing this game because of the battle system. The direction of the attacks is always linear and it got me killed twice during my whole game play XD. Even so, I like the system because it allows the player to evade and guard the attacks of the enemy in your own will. Sadly, I can only control one character manually and the rest are like programmed bots (like “Gambits” in FF12). I personally chose Guy as my main control since he is faster and his back step(or should I call it backwards somersault) is cool. His fonic artes are also easy to control and easy to activate. I also preferred to control Natalia during the early stage of the game because I was so lazy to move so I went to the one who has the bow and arrow(although she sucks when you are trying to kill small and flying monsters). I was only able to realize Luke’s strength and decided to finally control him during lvl 50* mildly because of poetic purposes and partly because I got bored with Guy. My favorite moves are Luke’s Raging Blast & Guardian Field, Guy’s Tiger Blade and Tear’s Severed Fate.

Out of the Six-God Generals, I really really like Legretta! She has similar fonic artes with Tear since she is Tear’s personal instructor which taught her the proper combat and also gave that stoic personality. I have to say that all the characters have nice character development in the story. I’m only disappointed with the rivalry and pairing between Sync and Guy -__-, I bet it’s because they both have the speed. All the Six-God Generals have deeper relationship to the six main characters except the two I mentioned above since they hardly know each other before the journey started.

One of the reasons I enjoyed the game was because of the concept of the Score. I find the concept of escaping the destiny and the future amusing. Luke’s very evident change throughout the game exhibited the amazing character development of the story. Of all the characters, I really didn’t use Jade at all even though he could cause several “Field of Fonons”, I just can’t appreciate his ability because he is extremely slow at attacking which is very ironic since the Six-God Generals keep on saying that he is hard to kill. Even so, I believe that JADE CURTISS is the very root of the story! (Viewers would soon find out why. He is extremely genius and partly insane) Just like Luke, I was also annoyed when I got to hear all the fon-fon stuffs the first time I played the game without even knowing what are they. They also included this several stuffs like Qlipoth, the miasma, the Planet Storm, Lorelei, Passage Rings and all other stuffs. When I first arrived in the Yulia City, I remembered the Cora Headquarters from RF Online since the portals and the designs are quite the same.

I was disturbed when I saw a resembling DAMOCLES from Code Geass which is called Eldrant in the game. It served as the final dungeon for the game. The ending is quite hard to beat without few Miracle Jellies and Life Bottles at hand. Natalia’s bot is so idiotic for she doesn’t automatically use Revive once an ally dies. The last moments of the game is very sad because someone had to sacrifice his life just to beat Van. At last, after appearing before Van, the fight began and I managed to knock him out. The Grand Fonic Hymn part is very weird, I though it was weird that my HP gauge disappeared out of nowhere and I didn’t know that it already marked the defeat of Van. Oh, by the way, Grand Fonic Hymn is the continuous version of Tear’s seven songs sang simultaneously.

The Epilogue of the game is romantic in a sense that the scenery was similar to the Tataroo Valley where the journey began. The world is finally independent to the Score and Malkuth and Kimlasca is finally at peace. LukexTear pairing is heavily implied in the ending of the story.

The funny part here is, I wasn’t able to learn Tear’s Seventh Hymn yet she was still able to sing the whole hymn lol.

I’ll still watch the anime so I’ll be able to compare it to the RPG once it ends.

I didn’t mentioned any spoilers did I? Except the very revealed fact that Van would be the final boss.

Tidying up

Friday, November 28th, 2008

I’ll be using this theme at the time being for testing and stick with it if I’ll like it better than the previous “Twilight” theme so I’ll be tidying up my posts with pictures that have excessive width. My finals would be on Dec 10 and 11 so after that would be the real deal when I’ll be back. [I'm planning to write an after thoughts entry about tales of the abyss rpg within this weekend and I hope I'll have the time.]

Any passer by, please give a thought about the new theme. thanks.

The only thing I’m disappointed about the theme is the header since my header rotator plugin doesn’t work and it is so wide so I guess I’ll be making a new sets of headers again if I want to utilize the width… Anyway, I still need to modify the header settings because my brother said that it’s very gloomy compared to the previous one XD.

Wow! A post!

Okay, being frustrated will do me no good. I’ve been keeping up with the series like Toradora!, Clannad AS, Gundam 00 S2, Tales of Abyss and Nodame Cantabile: Paris Chapter. I’ve added a new show to my list and it’s Skip Beat. I’ve already heard of it before the animation itself from my friend but it was shoujo so I wasn’t interested at all in the first place since I found the plot (which revolves around SHOW-BIZ) very cheesy or I might very — ughh… What I’m thinking before was the very thought Kyoko had when she first heard the name Love Me Section which really choked me to laughter.

Anyway, Nodame has only 11 episodes and I’m very sad that it won’t last long unlike the first which really satisfied me a lot. Many mentioned Nodame being the independent these days. She also exhibited a very unexpected move from the episode 5. I might consider reading the manga if I get too much excited in the ending of this chapter.

With the Tales… I’m not very optimistic that I’ll still be able to blog this one but I’m also playing right now the game and I’m already at 2/3 of the game. My very first pertaining to hate Luke was what the viewers are currently experiencing. I hope their love for Luke come back once he cuts his hair. This would mark his change in the game and much mature thinking. Many disclosures would be revealed pretty soon in the anime and maybe the viewers already got their clues about Luke and Natalia. Sync’s identity is pretty obvious already.

I’m really enjoying myself watching Skip Beat and I really got hunches that Shoutaro is Mamoru Miyano which I got right but I didn’t expected that Kyoko and Ren is Yoko and Kamina XD. With the ordinary thinking of humans, I expect people would also refer Kyouko as a persistent, trying hard and desperate foolish woman trying to climb the stairs by leaping ahead. Even so, I find it interesting because I also want to see Shoutaro’s face when he got face to face with Kyoko reborn.

Clannad AS is still dramatic as ever and I find the previous episodes the resolution for the supporting characters such as Sunohara himself, Mei-chan, Misae-san and currently, it’s Yukine’s part. I think the rest would follow before the truth unfolds with the main character and the heroines. I just don’t know when Fuko would show up. I’ve read few spoilers from the visual novel from Wikipedia but… I just don’t know how to react if that would be the really thing to happen. The robot and weird girl is very annoying as the first preview Xd.

Toradora! is so-so, I’ve been accustomed to it already but I don’t see anything new or any thing that would get my hopes up about the show except Minorin’s horror face. I don’t see anything out of ordinary… Anyway, maybe the anime is still introducing the full cast and now that Ami-chan have completed the slots, maybe the true twists and character developments would slowly begin to progress.

I have nothing to say about Gundam 00 S2…haha lol. I want the plot and I’m currently waiting what’s the plan with all that Mr. Bushido crap.

I remember going to 4chan every Sunday because of the Code Geass R2 craze but all of those are gone… I’m missing all those “fanfictions” all the anons are coming up because of the screwed up plot of R2. I guess Code Geass’ timeline is already finished.

I lost interest with Jigoku Shoujo and Ga-rei… so maybe I’ll be watching them next year?…

howdy…

My goodness, when I thought I could return in the end of the month, I guess it will be extended XD! This is so frustrating. I’ve got tests here and projects over there XD. My plans got ruined especially the episodic blogging with TotA… huhuhu. I’ll certainly come back grr! Oh I hate this feeling being left behind XD… I’ve got 2 essays, reporting modules, quiz tomorrow, quiz next monday and it gets piled up whenever I thought that it’s already finish. rawr!
